The story behind the Mary Bangle

Last year, Cotton On Body Buying Manager Sally Phelan visited Mannya village in Uganda, and met the beautiful women’s group. She came back inspired to create positive change in the community, by helping to raise further funds for the projects.

“Visiting the community in Mannya was such an overwhelming experience. It really brings home the fact that we have so much in our lives already and that we can give so much back to people who are in need.”

“I was particularly inspired by the Mannya women’s group for their strong, community spirit; and their craftwork is incredible – so vibrant and intricate!”

The Cotton On Foundation works on-ground with the Mannya women’s group to up-skill them in craft work design, and also provide future employment prospects through cooking, sewing and literacy classes.

Inspired by the craft work of the Mannya women’s group, the ‘Mary Bangle’ was the result of Sally’s trip.

Whilst we are working with the women’s group towards importing products direct from Mannya, we felt that we could start to make a difference now by helping to raise funds for them and the rest of the community.

  • 100% of the proceeds from the ‘Mary Bangle’ go to funding our projects including the current “Mission for a Million” project which is raising funds to build a healthier future for the people of Southern Uganda.
  • Made from wrapped nylon cord, the ‘Mary Bangle’ is designed to be worn as a collection – wear them stacked up to show your support for the Mannya women’s group!
