Thanks to you, Cotton On and the Cotton On Foundation have reached the $1 Million target set for the #IGiveABrick campaign, raising the funds required to build a school in Nubbunga, Southern Uganda.
Through the sharing of the #IGiveABrick hash tag on social media and the purchase of Cotton On Foundation charity products in Cotton On stores globally, we saw customers and supporters get behind the cause, demonstrating their passion to help build a better future for Southern Ugandan communities.
With construction set to begin later this month, the $1 Million raised will create 500 new educational places and cover the costs associated with building the school, including bricks and other materials.
Cotton On Foundation General Manager Tim Diamond says the results of the online global campaign has been amazing.
“Education is the major factor when breaking the cycle of poverty and through the generosity of our customers and passion of our teams we can now provide education to over 500 children in Nubbunga Village, Southern Uganda, which is such an inspiring result for everyone involved," he says.
Due to be completed by July 2015, the new school building will include 10 classrooms, staff offices and a staff room, housing for up to five teachers, a kitchen, toilet facilities, a play field, vegetable garden as well as access to clean water and two meals a day for the students.
Cotton On Foundation ambassador, Joel Selwood was moved by the level of support shown by customers across the world and their efforts to help make a difference.
“It is so inspiring to see the amazing support from Cotton On customers and it is thanks to them that we were able to reach our $1 million target,” explains Selwood.
“After visiting the communities in Southern Uganda with the Cotton On Foundation, I know first-hand how much of a positive impact this new school complex will have, not only on the children who will attend the school, but the entire community too. I am so thankful for everyone who supported the campaign,” he says.
The #IGiveABrick campaign is just one of the projects we have underway in Southern Uganda, all the aim helping us achieve our mission of creating 20,000 educational places in Uganda by 2020.
