No matter where you live in the world, being a mum is big job. And every mother has at least one thing in common, the desire to provide the very best for their children even before they’ve entered the world.
Although it may be difficult for many of us to imagine, most women in developing countries like Uganda still have little to no medical support during pregnancy and childbirth.
As we celebrate the special mums in our lives this month, we also want to commemorate another very important anniversary for mothers in Southern Uganda, which was made possible by the support of our loyal customers.
Three years ago, we opened the Maternity Ward at the Health Hub in Mannya Village, providing local women with a safe and clean environment to deliver their babies, so that they can give them the best, possible start to life.
The ward is staffed with trained medical professionals, has an ambulance available for emergency cases, and offers antenatal and post-natal programs to help reduce the high mortality rate still associated with childbirth in Uganda.
The programs available at the Mannya Health Hub include:
Viola (pictured) is the Head of the Maternity Department at the Mannya Health Hub. She delivers babies, monitors mothers whilst in labour and makes sure they access the programs available to them, both before and after they give birth.
“People can come here and get the care they need. The mothers are able to be cared for and this means there are more healthy babies.” Viola said.
She loves helping to deliver healthy babies, and has lost count of how many little ones she has helped bring into the world!
We haven’t though! Here’s a snapshot since the first baby was delivered at the Maternity Ward, three years ago:
Children are the future of the local community, and thanks to our loyal customers and the work of the staff at the Mannya Health Hub, they are now being given the best, healthiest start to life.
To celebrate Mother’s Day, we’ve designed a special, limited edition range for you to spoil Mum. Click here to take a look these treasures and continue to support our projects in Southern Uganda.
