The first HIV education centre opens in Southern Uganda

1 December 2015 marks World AIDS Day, and we are therefore very excited to announce that we've officially opened the Ross Landgon HIV Education Centre in Rakai District, the birthplace of AIDS in Uganda.

The Centre is located in Mannya Village, known to be an area rife with HIV.

The HIV Education Centre is the first of its kind, servicing people from surrounding communities in the ongoing fight against HIV. The Centre will provide testing and treatment services including:

-        HIV counselling

-        Support food nutrition programs

-        PMTCT care (Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission)

-        Paediatric HIV care

-        Family support group services

-        Private and group counselling on how to support and/or living with HIV positive person

-        Sexual risk and education sessions

Tim Diamond, Cotton On Foundation General Manager said the opening of the Ross Langdon HIV Education Centre will be a beacon of hope for people struggling to overcome the prevalence of HIV in their community.

“Rakai District, where HIV is rampant, has half its population under the age of 14 years. These are communities where people are not growing old because of AIDS, and we hope the opening of our Centre will help stop this epidemic,” said Tim.

“Basic education and counselling will be pivotal in supporting the community of the Rakai District, as these are people who are unaware of how to stop transmission or live a healthy life with AIDS, and that’s what our on the ground team will deliver to the district.”

The centre, which cost over $AU220,000 to build, aims to help over 160,000 people within its first year of operation.

A big thank you goes out once again to our amazing and supportive customers, as without your purchases this centre wouldn't be possible!
